Dr. Penélope Burle de Politis Ophthalmologist

Dr Penélope Burle de Politis is a Greek-Brazilian ophthalmologist with over twenty years of clinical and scientific experience. Today she puts that experience at the service of your eye health. A versatile practitioner, she manages the full range of eye complaints — from a routine eye examination to the work-up of a specific condition, from adult follow-up to ophthalmic emergencies — with a particular focus on medical retina (including age-related macular degeneration) and glaucoma.
An attentive and approachable doctor, she favours thorough, personalised care: a careful examination, clear explanations and long-term follow-up. Her priority is that every patient understands their condition and feels supported at every step.
A versatile, multilingual practitioner
Her long experience in emergency and general practice allows her to see all patients, for all reasons, and to guide each one appropriately. She sees children from the age of 6 and adults of all ages.
She speaks six languages: French (C1), English (C2), Spanish (C1), Greek (C1), Italian (C1) and Portuguese (native) — and is currently learning Dutch. This range of languages allows her to welcome and reassure patients from many different backgrounds, often in their own language.
  • An international background
Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, she graduated in medicine with highest distinction from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), one of the largest public universities in Latin America. Her degree is recognised in several European countries, including Switzerland, Portugal and Belgium.
After specialising in ophthalmology at the Naval Hospital of Rio de Janeiro, she passed several highly selective competitive examinations and completed her training with advanced fellowship programmes in the United States.
For six years she worked at the clinic of Prof. Renato Ambrósio Jr., former president of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) and a world-renowned expert in keratoconus and corneal ectasia.
For eighteen years she headed the ophthalmology department of the State Police Hospital of Rio de Janeiro, a public hospital post she obtained through a selective competitive examination. There she managed the full range of ophthalmic emergencies — an experience that gave her broad clinical versatility, from the anterior segment to the retina.
In Greece, following full recognition of her qualifications, she then practised for seven years at a major ophthalmology centre in the north of the country.
    Areas of care
    • General ophthalmology — eye examinations, presbyopia, screening, emergencies, follow-up of adults and of children from the age of 6.
    • Medical retina — AMD, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, macular oedema: screening, diagnosis and follow-up.
    • Glaucoma and ocular hypertension — screening, assessment and regular follow-up.

    • Cornea and keratoconus — screening and follow-up.
    Research and involvement
The author of several scientific publications carried out in collaboration with leading figures in ophthalmology, she has given numerous presentations at congresses and scientific meetings.

The honest opinion of our clients

They received the best care, leave understanding their condition, and know that their well-being is our top priority.

My name is Adilia, I am 48 years old, and I live in Mons. Several years ago, I underwent gynecological surgery in a hospital under general anesthesia. When I woke up, I had lost sight in my right eye.
Since then, I have been treated by various specialist doctors in Liège and Brussels, without any improvement. In the hospital, it felt like everything was done ‘assembly line style,’ and I didn’t even have time to ask my questions… You feel abandoned…
Finally, I was referred to Dr. Yeh, who took care of me and gave me advice. Her approach immediately put me at ease, and I have been coming to I CARE since 2019. Dr. Yeh performed cataract surgery on my left eye between the two Covid-19 lockdowns. Since I had been on medical leave for a long time and had just returned to work, I wanted to have the surgery quickly so I could recover and be able to work again as soon as the lockdown ended. Dr. Yeh listened to me carefully and understood me right away… Unfortunately, most specialists only see their specific field, but Dr. Yeh sees the whole person, and that is very important. She examines me at the ocular level but also observes the impact of my problem on my life. She treats me, explains where we are headed, even if it’s hard for me to fully grasp it.

Patient

We have been coming to the clinic for over two years and were operated on for cataracts by Dr. Yeh. The surgeries were perfectly successful, and the medical follow-up was very thorough. I don’t know of a better practitioner in Belgium. Well done.
