Cataract

What is a cataract?

Behind the iris (the round diaphragm that gives your eye its color) is the eye’s lens, a completely transparent lens that can become cloudy over time. This cloudiness, called cataract, leads to a deterioration in vision. Imagine you’re driving and your windshield is very dirty… you experience the same effect with your eyes: no matter how good your glasses or contact lenses are, you will no longer be able to see clearly.

The surgery is performed under local anesthesia and is painless. Your eyes are operated on at different times, allowing you to resume your daily activities after the surgery on your second eye. The choice of the artificial lens will be discussed with us based on your options and the condition of your eyes. Monofocal, multifocal, bifocal, or trifocal toric implants… | cataractejepassealacte.fr Are you scheduled for cataract surgery soon? Do you want to get rid of your glasses through an intraocular implant? How does a surgery at I CARE proceed?

The surgery is an outpatient procedure, which means you can go home the same day.

Before the surgery

Each eye is unique, which is why there are different lenses available. At I CARE, we first conduct a precise, comprehensive examination that allows us to accurately calculate the lens biometrics and check the internal condition of your eye.

Day of the surgery

  • You are fasting (have not eaten or drunk anything since 6 hours before your surgery.).
  • You are accompanied by someone who will assist you and drive you home (you are not allowed to and will not be able to drive). –
  • In the clinic’s waiting room, ophthalmological drops will be administered to the eye that is going to be operated on.
  • You will then be taken to the preparation room, where you will be seated in the operating chair. The nurse will place a catheter with a medication to regulate your blood pressure.
  • We will take you to the operating room.
  • At I CARE, we take no risks. Although the surgery is performed under local anesthesia, an anesthesiologist will be with you throughout the entire procedure. –
  • You will be comfortably positioned in the operating room.
  • The nurse will disinfect your eye and part of your face, and sterile surgical drapes will be placed over your entire face and part of your body.
  • Meanwhile, the rest of the team will be busy preparing the machines and the necessary equipment.

The surgery

In the operating room, Dr. Yeh uses an ophthalmic microscope throughout the entire procedure. Using micro-instruments, Dr. Yeh will make an incision in the capsular bag where your cataract is located and remove it through aspiration. The artificial lens is then placed in the empty capsular bag. This process takes less than 20 minutes.

What do you feel during surgery?

During this painless procedure, you will not be able to see anything, as you will be blinded by the light of the microscope. You will only feel the liquid that Dr. Yeh constantly applies to your eye to keep it hydrated.

Aftercare following the surgery

After the surgery, you will receive a plastic eye shield to protect your eye from pressure or friction. The first follow-up appointment will take place the day after the surgery. The second check-up occurs a week later, and the final one is a month after the procedure. During the last check-up, Dr. Yeh will prescribe new glasses if necessary.
