Behind the iris (the round diaphragm that gives your eye its color) is the eye’s lens, a completely transparent lens that can become cloudy over time. This cloudiness, called cataract, leads to a deterioration in vision. Imagine you’re driving and your windshield is very dirty… you experience the same effect with your eyes: no matter how good your glasses or contact lenses are, you will no longer be able to see clearly.
The surgery is an outpatient procedure, which means you can go home the same day.
Each eye is unique, which is why there are different lenses available. At I CARE, we first conduct a precise, comprehensive examination that allows us to accurately calculate the lens biometrics and check the internal condition of your eye.
In the operating room, Dr. Yeh uses an ophthalmic microscope throughout the entire procedure. Using micro-instruments, Dr. Yeh will make an incision in the capsular bag where your cataract is located and remove it through aspiration. The artificial lens is then placed in the empty capsular bag. This process takes less than 20 minutes.
During this painless procedure, you will not be able to see anything, as you will be blinded by the light of the microscope. You will only feel the liquid that Dr. Yeh constantly applies to your eye to keep it hydrated.
After the surgery, you will receive a plastic eye shield to protect your eye from pressure or friction. The first follow-up appointment will take place the day after the surgery. The second check-up occurs a week later, and the final one is a month after the procedure. During the last check-up, Dr. Yeh will prescribe new glasses if necessary.
